CAPE TOWN - Eastern Cape authorities on Sunday said four of the five motorists arrested for drunken driving in Butterworth, were granted bail.
The suspects were arrested on Friday, in a joint operation on Mthatha Street.
Police spokesperson Jackson Manatha said officials specifically clamped down on drunken driving this weekend.
He said there were several graduation ceremonies in the area, and that people tend to drive drunk around pay-day.
Manatha said the motorists were detained for four hours before being granted the option of bail.
The motorists paid bail of R2000 each, but the fifth motorist is facing charges of assault.
The man allegedly assaulted traffic officers and police during his arrest.
