JOHANNESBURG - Protesters in Olievenhoutbosch, west of Pretoria, on Wednesday moved away from the R55 highway to another part of the area, under the watchful eye of police.

Earlier, protesters blockaded the road and pulled motorists out of their vehicles.

Residents told Eyewitness News the problems started on Tuesday night when taxis stopped buses on the Centurion routes and forced commuters off the buses.

This morning, the fearful bus drivers refused to work.

As a result, angry commuters attacked the taxi drivers on Wednesday morning and chased them out of the taxi rank.

In 2011, the Tshwane Municipality provided bus services to the area when the taxis stopped operating because of a dispute.

Many residents have said they prefer travelling by buses as they are reliable, comfortable and affordable.
