Mdluli ‘avoids’ court sheriff

Civil organisation Freedom Under Law (FUL) on Wednesday said controversial cop Richard Mdluli had twice evaded the sheriff of the court who is trying to serve him with papers.

On Tuesday, the organistion launched an urgent application in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

It wants the court to prevent Mdluli from acting as a police officer, pending a judicial review of his reappointment.

He faces a range of allegations including murder, kidnapping, corruption and nepotism.

According to FUL’s Jeremy Gauntlett, the sheriff went to Mdluli's Boksburg home twice on Tuesday.

“Last night, Mdluli had left instructions with his domestic workers and bodyguards not to accept [court] papers and to allow nobody onto his premises.”

In 2011, Mdluli and three others were arrested and charged for the 1999 murder of Oupa Ramogibe.

It is believed Ramogibe's wife was having an affair with Mdluli.

The charges were subsequently withdrawn by the National Prosecuting Authority back in February.

President Jacob Zuma and Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa were accused of politically interfering in the case. Both officials deny the claims.

Last Wednesday, Mthethwa announced Mdluli would be shifted from his position as crime intelligence boss.
