JOHANNESBURG – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will broadcast Bafana Bafana games for the next three years.
This after the public broadcaster and the South African Football Association (Safa) signed a deal in Auckland Park on Tuesday.
The SABC will show live games of all Bafana Bafana home matches and away friendlies until 2015.
It will also screen games played by Banyana Banyana and the Men's Under-23 squad.
The deal is valued at R215 million.
The previous contract expired in March 2011 and was valued at R30 million a year.
SABC Group CEO Lulama Mokhobo said the broadcaster was still negotiating with French company Sports-5, for the rights to broadcast Bafana Bafana’s away games.
The SABC will also try and obtain the rights to the 2013 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament.
In October, the broadcaster will launch Safa TV, a magazine programme that will offer the soccer association additional coverage.
The show will launch on the SABC’s new sports channel, due to launch over the same period.
