CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police on Tuesday said they have referred their investigation into the alleged sexual assault of Cape Town teenager while on a rugby tour to the National Prosecuting Authority.
The 16-year-old boy apparently told his parents he had been sodomised with foreign objects in March after being given alcohol.
It has now emerged the report may have been a prank.
The school, which the boys attend, said its own investigation found no evidence of the assault.
The boys involved have nonetheless been disciplined.
Deputy Western Cape Police Commissioner, Sharon Jephta, said she was awaiting feedback from the NPA.
“The case has gone to the DPP’s office now. They will look at the case and if it needs to be investigated further, they will inform us and we will investigate further.”
