CAPE TOWN - A family was burnt to death in a Kareedouw shack on Friday.

It is understood that the Eastern Cape couple and their 2-year-old daughter were sleeping, when a fire broke out.

It was unclear what caused the blaze when police arrived.

Police spokesperson Gerda Swart said neighbours allegedly heard noises coming from the shack, but could not do anything as the fire spread at a rapid speed.
