CAPE TOWN - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape blames the Democratic Alliance (DA) party for violent service delivery protests at Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.

Last week, residents blockaded entry and exit points into the informal settlement, protesting for better housing.

A heavy police force was deployed to the area when protestors started pelting rocks at police officers.

Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille is expected to address residents on Sunday, in an effort to resolve the matter.

ANC chief whip in the Cape Town council, Xolani Sotashe, said the meeting is the last resort for the DA, a resort driven by their frustrations.

Sotashe said he was told Western Cape Premier Helen Zille would also be attending the meeting.

Meanwhile, a resident from Sir Lowry’s Pass Village said she knows she will not be receiving a new house, despite promises made by the Western Cape government.

Samantha Adams told Eyewitness News that even though she had participated in many service delivery protests, no good had come from it.

Adams said she believes nothing will be resolved when officials visit the area on Sunday.
