PRETORIA - Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa on Friday instructed a task team that is investigating the allegations of a conspiracy against controversial policeman Richard Mdluli to report back within a month.

On Tuesday, Mthethwa announced in parliament that Mdluli had been shifted from his post as Crime Intelligence head.

Mdluli wrote a letter to President Jacob Zuma in which he accused several senior police officers of trying to unseat him.

The task team’s mandate is to collect information and to consult with people implicated in Mdluli’s letter.

It also has to provide in depth analysis before compiling a report.

The shifted policeman accused suspended National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele, Gauteng Commissioner Mzwandile Petros, Hawks boss Anwar Dramat and two senior policemen of ganging up against him.

Led by chief state lawyer advisor Anvil Daniels, the task team includes officials from the military and state security.

The Police Ministry said the expected report will also make recommendations on the way forward regarding the saga.
