JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Education MEC Barbara Creecy said on Tuesday it could take up to six months for a forensic investigation into independent schools in the province to be completed.

Creecy revealed four schools had already been placed under administration and another two are facing a criminal investigation because of financial mismanagement.

The probe followed a Lead SA investigation into Reverend Josias Mabaso, whose two schools in Denver and Ramaphosa were deregistered because of fraud and corruption.

Creecy confirmed forensic investigations into the remaining 22 schools were continuing and in the meantime they were still being subsidised.

“The department has already conducted two site inspections this year in each school to ensure that the funds are being used in ensuring quality education.”
