JOHANNESBURG - Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Helen Zille said on Sunday, although she shares similar sentiments with Congress of South African Trade Union’s (Cosatu) Zwelinzima Vavi, she has never approached him to join the opposition party.
It was reported at the weekend that the trade union federation heavyweight had received numerous requests from Zille to join the DA.
Vavi was quoted as saying she had approached him during a 2010 FIFA World Cup game and during the run-up to 2011's local government elections.
Zille's spokesperson Pierre-Charl du Preez said, “While the DA and Costau are in full agreement on issues such a corruption and e-tolling, we fundamentally differ on how to address South Africa’s biggest crisis, poverty and unemployment.”
