CAPE TOWN – Western Cape traffic officials on Monday said close to 3,000 motorists were screened for drunk driving over the past weekend.

Traffic chief Kenny Africa said more roadblocks are being conducted on provincial roads this year.

He said over 20 roadblocks took place.

He said a driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in every road block and speeding motorists were also taken to task.

“About 1,323 drivers were prosecuted for exceeding the speed limit.”

Africa said a driver was arrested for driving under the influence in every road block.

About 1,500 of these drivers were screened for alcohol and 21 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor.”
