CAPE TOWN  - Eastern Cape police arrested a 32-year-old man for the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl in Butterworth on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Jackson Manatha said the rape took place on Saturday, while the girl was sleeping with her older sister at the family home.

The girl’s parents reported the case to police on Sunday. Manatha said police had not yet established where the mother was when the incident happened.

Also in Butterworth, police also arrested a 19-year-old man for allegedly raping a 46-year-old woman.

The incident happened on Friday evening, when the victim was returning from a traditional ceremony in the Mangweni area.

The suspect allegedly raped the woman repeatedly, after grabbing her viciously and forcing her down.
