JOHANNESBURG - The manhunt has intensified for the kidnappers of a 12-year-old South African boy who was held for ransom in Malaysia for nearly a week.
Nayati Moodliar was abducted in Kuala Lampur last Friday while making his way to school.
He was found unharmed at a recreational area.
Malaysian media have reported the kidnappers, whom police do not want to name, initially demanding a R2.5 million ransom but this was negotiated down to around R750,000.
Nayati’s family have now taken a short vacation to reflect on the incident.
His aunt Anuschia Moodliar said the case is still under police investigation.
The kidnappers could face the death penalty if arrested and convicted.
