CAPE TOWN: The ANC on Tuesday urged workers to do their bit by supporting trade unions.

ANC National Executive Council member Jessie Duarte addressed hundreds of workers at Cosatu's Workers' Day rally in Cape Town on Workers Day.

She said some trade unions  were facing tough times.

Duarte explained Cosatu needed to think about forging international ties.

“If Cosatu took up some campaigns with workers in India and China to get an understanding that if you allow retailers and wholesalers to export to our country, you are costing us jobs.”

Meanwhile, National Union of Mineworkers' General Secretary Frans Baleni said racism in the working class was still a concern.

“We are urging the workers in the Western Cape to mobilise themselves to ensure they eliminate the racism.”
