JOHANNESBURG - A one-day-old baby boy was found in a plastic bag in Dlamini, Soweto police confirmed on Tuesday.

Authorities were called to the scene after a thirteen-year-old boy noticed something moving inside a plastic bag.

The infant was taken to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

He will be sent to a home of safety after being treated.

Police opened a child abandonment case.

This is the second such incident in Soweto this week.

On Sunday evening, a two-day-old baby was left at a doorstep in Zola.

The police's Kay Makhubele appealed to the community to come forward with any information.

“We are asking anyone who knows a girl who was pregnant but has no baby to call the police so we can investigate [the matter].”
