JOHANNESBURG - Suspended Prosecutor Glynnis Breytenbach was reportedly shot at and followed around three weeks ago, in what appeared to be an attempt to intimidate her.

Breytenbach was formally suspended as the head of the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit (SCCU) in Pretoria on Monday, after she was given notice of this some time back.

The NPA claimed the suspension was related to her handling of the Kumba /Imperial Crown trading case.

It is however widely speculated Breytenbach is a target because of her work on the Richard Mdluli matter.

The City Press reported on Tuesday that the suspended prosecutor was shot at three weeks ago, while driving home on the N14.

She said two shots rang out. Both shots missed her.

The anti-corruption prosecutor also said she was almost forced off the road in a separate incident last week.

Two BMW motorbikes were following her and were forced to back off after a Metro Police car drove by.

This was the same week during which Breytenbach had handed over her reasons for why the Richard Mdluli case should not have been withdrawn.

Mdluli was re-appointed to his position as Police Crime Intelligence Head, despite an unresolved murder case and allegations that he helped defraud a multimillion rand secret fund.
