JOHANNESBURG - Authorities admitted on Monday they had not made any arrests yet, after two elephant tusks were confiscated at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday.
The tusks were worth an estimated R70,000 and were discovered in two bags destined for Hong Kong.
South African Revenue Services (SARS) spokesperson Adrian Lackay said, “Over the long weekend various law enforcement agencies increased their visibility at the airport, specifically monitoring outgoing flights from the country.”
A Vietnamese man was recently arrested at OR Tambo International for trying to smuggle rhino horn in his luggage.
