The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) believes its wage demands are fair.

The union wants a 15 percent wage hike for municipal staff across the country.

It argues workers should be paid a minimum monthly salary of 6-thousand Rand.

SAMWU's Tahir Sema said, “We are in the first round of negotiations and we do feel our demands are both reasonable and legitimate. We are willing to negotiate and receive a settlement at the negotiating table.”
