JOHANNESBURG - Some seven people were injuried on Saturday, when the taxi they were travelling in caught fire on the N3 highway, just before the Linksfield off-ramp in the north of Johannesburg.

Paramedics said the cause of the blaze was not yet known, but will be investigated.

Spokesperson for the Emergency Medical Care and Response Services (ER24) Andre Visser said fire and rescue workers managed to extinguish the fire quickly.

He said occupants managed to remove themselves from the vehicle before paramedics arrived at the scene.

Passengers were taken to a nearby health facility, to be treated for minor burns.
