Cape Town authorities on Thursday confirmed a fatal shark attack in False Bay.
The victim has been described as a young man who was body boarding with his brother when he was attacked just before 1pm.
The incident occurred at Koeël Bay between Gordon's Bay and Rooi Els.
Fire and Rescue service's Theo Layne said the man was already dead when they got to the scene.
“When we arrived at the scene, we discovered an adult male that was already out of the water.”
Eyewitnesses say a large white shark is still being spotted in the area.
Layne says they have cleared the water for now as a precaution.
“We are keeping everybody out of the water. We have law enforcement ensuring nobody enters the water at the moment.”
