Local

Johannesburg police arrested two suspected robbers following a dramatic car chase on Main Reef Road in Roodepoort on Sunday afternoon.

Officers noticed a suspicious looking vehicle and gave chase.

The police were forced to fire shots at the vehicle when the driver failed to stop and be searched.

The driver then went on to oncoming traffic while trying to avoid the police.

When the vehicle finally came to a standstill, on the corner of Shaft and Main Reef Road, one man jumped out and fled while two others were arrested.

A police helicopter is combing the area, looking for the man, who fled on foot.

Police spokesperson Pinky Tsinyane said, “At this stage it is not known if it was a house or a business robbery. Police found a laptop and jewellery in the vehicle.”
