Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Helen Zille on Friday welcomed any challenge for her position at the party's upcoming elective conference.

The DA's Federal Congress will meet in November where new leadership will be elected.

Zille has downplayed claims of factionalism within the opposition party.

She said she was certain that her position would be challenged at the upcoming conference, but said it was not a divisive process.

The DA congress will take place at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus.

Zille took over as party leader in 2007.
