A rhino has died while having an anti-poaching tracking chip inserted into his horn at a media demonstration on Thursday morning.
The Rhino Rescue Project suspects the 22-year-old rhino's heart condition caused its death while it was waking up from an operation.
Officials said a post-mortem will determine the cause of death.
The procedure was held at the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve in Krugersdorp on Gauteng’s West Rand.
In 2011, over 400 rhino were killed by poachers in South Africa.
