Eskom on Tuesday appealed to big energy users to try and cut back on their power usage as it tried to avoid rolling blackouts.
The power utility said the country’s electricity network was under severe pressure.
It added it was working hard to avoid load shedding.
Eskom's Hillary Joffe said usage appeared to have stabilised a little.
“We are putting as many levers up as we can to manage the risk. We are certainly not planning any power cuts, but we are running at some risk,” she said.
