Gauteng's top matriculants have put their excellent results down to hard work, perseverance and a little luck.
Kaitlin Cunningham from Crawford High School in Lonehill has been named the province's top performing matriculant for achieving nine distinctions.
She said she was still in shock.
“It feels surreal because there is no way I expected anything this good."
Bertus Johannes Malan from Pretoria Boys High took the top spot in the male category for clinching eight distinctions.
He said he was looking forward to starting his tertiary education.
“I am going to do electronic engineering at the University of Pretoria because I really enjoy working with electronics and computers,” he said.
