As Athol Trollip and Lindiwe Mazibuko wait to find out who will win the election for the post of DA Parliamentary leader, party insiders said the race seems too close to call.

The announcement is being made on Thursday morning.

The votes of 80 MPs and party leader Helen Zille are up for grabs in this race.

While Mazibuko has had the higher media profile, insiders said Trollip should not be written off.

In the last DA caucus election, he won in a surprising result.

Trollip said all the effort to keep his job has been worth it.

“It is a tough job and we have a very big caucus. Our caucus has grown in every election. It keeps me away from home a lot,” he said.

DA officials said Mazibuko will only speak in public after the result is announced.
