Tshwane’s deputy metro police chief Ndumiso Jaca is scheduled to meet with the mayor and city manager on Monday to explain why he uses false, identical plates on his vehicles.
An Eyewitness News investigation found his Harley Davidson and BMW Z4 share the number plates BALTY GP, but that these are false.
The municipality said it will conduct a full investigation into the allegations.
Jaca, known as 'Balty' to his biker friends, confirmed to Eyewitness News that he uses the vehicles, but hung up when questioned about the plates.
“If you’ve got issues with me, come to me one on one,” he said.
It is unlikely he will be able to avoid the tough questions when seated before Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa.
The municipality’s Pieter de Necker said, “We are taking it very seriously. A meeting has been scheduled with him to discuss the matter and the city is also committed to do its own internal investigation.”
He added that a detailed response would follow the talks.
Jaca is tipped to become the capital’s next police chief.
