The Democratic Alliance on Tuesday defended laying criminal charges against National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele.
The party opened a case against Cele and Public Works Minister Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde over the police lease controversy.
The public protector identified illegal actions involved in the leases of headquarters in Pretoria and Durban.
On Monday the Hawks confirmed an investigation was underway.
The DA’s Wilmot James welcomed the news.
