The Democratic Alliance on Tuesday defended laying criminal charges against National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele.
The party opened a case against Cele and Public Works Minister Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde over the police lease controversy.
The public protector identified illegal actions involved in the leases of headquarters in Pretoria and Durban.
On Monday the Hawks confirmed an investigation was underway.
The DA’s Wilmot James welcomed the news.
“The law must be pursued to the fullest extent possible,” he said. “Charges were laid and the charges have to be pursued. So my general response is having the Hawks take it on…
is a good thing and we will watch how things progress."
