As the African National Congress (ANC) comes under pressure about its local government candidate nomination process, the party is expected to report back on Tuesday on its crucial National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.
The Times newspaper is reporting that ANC supporters in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal took to the streets demanding that President Jacob Zuma keep his word and remove candidates who had been improperly nominated.
The ANC said it will give a briefing following the meeting of the NWC on Monday, but it did not say exactly what will be announced.
It is unclear when the names of mayors of the major metros will be made public just yet.
However, the City of Ekurhuleni announced on Monday that the first council meeting of the municipality will be taking place on Wednesday. Its mayor will also be elected.
This means a decision on the mayor will have to be made. The party will also make public who will be made in charge of sorting out the problematic candidates list.
Zuma had promised to fix the issue after the elections.
