It was a weekend of celebration and prayer at former president Nelson Mandela’s Houghton home. Madiba was discharged from Milpark Hospital over a week ago after being admitted for an acute respiratory infection.
A string of cars could be seen parked outside Mandela’s house on Sunday, while a police officer and a bodyguard patrolled the perimeter.
It is understood a prayer gathering attended by Madiba’s ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was held.
Madikizela-Mandela was due go on a door to door campaign to encourage voter registration on the West Rand on Sunday morning but could not make it. On Saturday, Mandela’s daughter Zenani celebrated her birthday at the house with friends and family.
The last update on the elderly statesman’s health was issued on Thursday with Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane saying he was in good health.
