Some Mitchell’s Plain parents in the Cape Flats are recalculating their budgets due to a hike in back to school spending.
Local caregivers are paying more for transport as their children had to be relocated following the closure of Weltevreden Primary School.
Low enrolment forced the Rocklands school to close its doors.
Zacheria Ismail said he has gotten used to doing careful sums in January.
“Money is a major problem for all parents. We all have to fork out money for new school uniforms and we also had to pay our school fees,” he said.
