JOHANNESBURG - The lawyer for the first accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial said he would be disputing the bank statements used by the State to show the whereabouts of his client around the time the football star was killed.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya told the court that he left Gauteng in 2013 after losing his job and only returned in 2015 and he could not have been part of Meyiwa's murder.

However, bank records presented by the State in court on Thursday have shown transactions from Capitec Bank in Vosloorus and purchases in Johannesburg.

His lawyer, Thulani Mngomezulu, said they would be challenging that evidence.

“My lord, we do not admit the correctness of this and moreover, there is a bank account that has not been furnished to the defence,” claimed Mngomezulu.

“So, the information here, the bank just cooked it, as to quote you,” Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng replied.

“I will keep on saying that.” Mngomezulu reiterated.
