Presidency welcomes Egypt's support of SA's genocide case against Israel in ICJ

JOHANNESBURG - The Presidency says Egypt's move to support South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is testament that the violations against Palestine cannot be ignored.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry made this announcement on Sunday following another urgent appeal to the ICJ by South Africa.

South Africa is reiterating its call on the court to order Israel to withdraw its military operations in Rafah.
The death toll from Israel's war on Gaza, which started in October, has surpassed 35,000 people.
Conflict between Israel and Hamas intensified in 2023, after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing more than 1,000 people.
In January, the ICJ issued an interim ruling that found there was a plausible risk of genocide in the enclave and ordered Israel to take provisional measures, including preventing any genocidal acts from taking place.
Israel has recently ordered more people to leave the southern city of Rafah, where it pounded several areas.
Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the support from Egypt is welcomed.
"Israel is increasingly getting isolated. More needs to be done, particularly by allies of Israel, to stop this genocide."
In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry said its decision came as a result of the exacerbating gravity of Israeli atrocities against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza strip.
