CAPE TOWN - A State witness has blown the lid on Cape Town's nightclub security war between alleged underworld kingpins, Jerome "Donkie" Booysen and his rival, Nafiz Modack.

Booysen and Modack are both on trial in separate cases in the Western Cape High Court, where they face a slew of charges related to running criminal enterprises.

The State witness, who cannot be named, testified that he was a security guard for one of Booysen's alleged henchmen, Kishor Naidoo.

He said that Naidoo later recruited him to join the 27's numbers gang and perpetrate crimes on behalf of Booysen.

The witness said he attended various meetings with Booysen and other high-ranking 27's gangsters, who plotted against Modack and Booysens' brother, Colin, after the pair had taken control of security at Cape Town's nightclubs.

He told the court he was present on 8 and 9 April 2017 when Booysen joined about 100 27's gangsters in a show of force at various nightclubs to oust Modack and Colin.

The trial continues.
