Thousands of pro-Palestinian supporters marched through the streets of Cape Town to Parliament in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

ANC Western Cape spokesperson Muhammad Khalid Sayed said the party identifies with the struggle of Palestinians.

"We most certainly identify with the call for government to impose sanctions against the apartheid state of Israel. In fact, this is in keeping with numerous conference resolutions of the African National Congress, wherein the ANC fully adopted boycott, divestment and sanctions against genocidal-apartheid Israel."

Meanwhile, the University of the Western Cape's professor Mahmoud Patel made a clarion call to pro-Palestinian supporters to continue standing up against Israel.

Addressed marchers outside Parliament, he said for more than four decades, pro-Palestinian supporters have been marching against global oppression orchestrated by zionists and imperialists.

"The concerted effort and the genocide that is unfolding is nothing more than the grand schemes and plans that were hatched by the gangsters in Washington."
