Meyiwa murder trial: Second confession statement to be thrust into the spotlight

JOHANNESBURG - A second confession by one of the men accused of murdering Senzo Meyiwa is set to be laid bare in the Pretoria High Court this week.
Last week, confessions by two of the accused - Bongani Ntanzi and Muzi Sibiya were read into the record after the court found that they were admissible.

The two suspects, who are accused of the football star's 2014 murder implicated themselves and their co-accused.
They also exposed Meyiwa's girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo as the mastermind.
Now that Ntanzi and Sibiya's confession statements have been read into the record, Ntanzi’s second statement must also be unveiled.
Ntanzi signed a second confession statement before a magistrate at the Boksburg Magistrates Court in June 2020.
He claimed he signed the confession unknowingly as he thought he was signing for a shower and a phone call to his family.
But both magistrate Vivan Cronje and the interpreter who was present insist Ntanzi signed knowingly after he willingly confessed.
Cronje is expected to return to the witness stand this week to place the confession that he took on the record.
