Godongwana lauds appointment of Mampho Modise as deputy SA Reserve Bank governor
Modise’s appointment was announced by the presidency on Friday along with the re-appointment of SA Reserve Bank governor Lesetja Kganyago for a third five-year term.

CAPE TOWN - Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has thrown his weight behind the appointment of Mampho Modise as the newest deputy reserve bank governor.
He says Modise, who is the head of public finance in the national treasury, is dedicated and talented, with a genuine passion for the public service.

Modise’s appointment was announced by the presidency on Friday, along with the re-appointment of SA Reserve Bank governor Lesetja Kganyago for a third five-year term.
Godongwana says Modise's appointment follows thorough consultation between himself, the president and the reserve bank board.
She replaces Kuben Naidoo who left the central bank last year before the end of his term this March.
Modise will start her five-year term on the first of April.
The terms of the other two deputy governors - Nomfundo Tshazibana and Rashid Cassim - have also been extended.
Modise started her career as an intern at the reserve bank twenty years ago, leaving there as an economist.
She joined the treasury in 2009, steadily rose through the ranks from a senior economist in economic policy to a director of fiscal policy, and then chief director of strategy and risk management.
She’s been the deputy director general of public finance since 2017 which includes oversight over public and state-owned entities.
In replacing her at the treasury, Godongwana says the institution has a deep well of capable officials from which to draw to ensure there’s continuity until a permanent appointment is made.
