Confession statement reveals accused was paid R45k for his hand in Meyiwa murder

JOHANNESBURG - A confession statement by one of the alleged intruders behind the murder of Senzo Meyiwa has revealed that he was paid a total of R45,000 for his part in the murder.
Bongani Ntanzi’s confession was read in the Pretoria High Court by Lieutenant Colonel Mohale Raphadu on Friday morning.
This comes after the court ruled on Thursday that it was made freely and voluntarily, and the state called back to the stand the witnesses who took down the confession statements.

Ntanzi and four others are standing trial for the murder of the Bafana Bafana captain almost a decade ago.
“I was briefed that the person who was going to be eliminated was Senzo Meyiwa and the matter is initiated by Kelly Khumalo who was going to make a payment for the whole job.”
In his confession, Bongani Ntanzi detailed how he had been called in mid-October about an urgent job that had to be done where his help was needed.
He then revealed the role of each of the accused in the murder of Meyiwa.
While he was in the house with the third accused – Mthobisi Mncube – Meyiwa jumped onto Mncube, and a scuffle ensued.
This resulted in the footballer being shot in the chest.
Ntanzi said after they had fled the scene, and they were back at the Vosloorus hostel – he was paid R15,000.
“Nkani later returned and took out an amount of R30,000 and gave it me.”
Ntanzi said he was unhappy about the amount and a meeting was later held in Mahlabathini, KwaZulu-Natal, to discuss this.
