EFF fires warning shot to parties with KZN stronghold as it makes play for province

DURBAN - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have fired a warning shot to political parties with a stronghold in KwaZulu-Natal as the party makes a play for the province.
The EFF is expected to launch its 2024 election manifesto in Durban on Saturday ahead of the upcoming hotly-contested polls.

Thousands of supporters have already begun to trickle into the Moses Mabhida Stadium in anticipation of EFF leader Julius Malema’s address on Saturday.
The EFF said it won’t play second fiddle to the African National Congress (ANC) or the Inkatha Freedom Party - even if it's in a province where it commands less support.
Though stadium politics may not be the only measure of its support in the province, it's worth mentioning that the 58,000-seater stadium is proving tougher and slower to fill.
So far, only part of the lower half of the stands are coloured by a sea of red.
With Malema’s address expected to commence soon, party chairperson Veronica Mente denied coming in from a lower base.
“I don’t think that statement is actually true because since 2019, the ANC did not really get outright majority. Its own outright majority was not on the margins in which it used to be. It became much worse in 2021.”
Former ANC member turned Fighter Carl Niehaus agrees.
“You will see today in this stadium, despite all the noise that was made by some people who didn’t want the EFF to be present here, in KwaZulu-Natal.”
When the official program finally kicks off, Malema is expected to focus on service delivery, radical economic transformation, job creation, and the fight against corruption.
