Police arrest 51-year-old for attempted murder after holding wife, grandchild hostage

CAPE TOWN - A 51-year-old man from Penlyn Estate in Cape Town has been arrested for attempted murder, after taking his wife and granddaughter hostage on Wednesday.

Police believe the man stabbed his wife during a domestic dispute, seriously injuring her.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg says the woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

"The 52-year-old wife and the granddaughter were rescued, and the 51-year-old husband was arrested on a charge of attempted murder. He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court once he has been charged."
