CAPE TOWN - The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in the Western Cape said it acknowledged the scores of South Africans who continue to live in abject poverty despite 30 years of freedom.

The civic organisation said the ruling party needed more time to close the inequality gap created by the apartheid regime.

It also called on the youth of South Africa to participate in the next elections.

SANCO's Bongikhaya Qhama was speaking on Freedom Day during an African National Congress (ANC) election campaign at the Khayelitsha Mall at the weekend.

"Our infrastructure in the areas where we live is decaying - it has nothing to do with lack of service delivery by the ANC. It means that we have the responsibility of rebuilding, and I think that it is a phase where we are at the moment, and I think we are quite happy with the intervention of the national government."
