JOHANNESBURG - With the first month of the year barely over, two mothers in Mpumalanga have had to come face to face with any parent's worst nightmare.

Two men in the province are facing rape charges after allegedly sexually assaulting their daughters in two separate incidents.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for the alleged rape of his eight-year-old daughter in Balfour.

It's understood the victim's mother confronted her spouse when she found him in possession of his stepdaughter's underwear.

The mother subsequently discovered that the alleged rape had been happening since last year, which he denied.

Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man in Bethal accused of sexually abusing his 13-year-old daughter since September was arrested last week.

The child broke her silence to her stepmother after it was discovered that she had been impregnated, allegedly by her father.

Police said the man allegedly threatened to kill his child if she spoke out about her painful ordeal.

Officers also said he offered her money for her silence. The child's stepmother reported the matter to police, resulting in his arrest.

The man will make his second appearance in the Bethal Magistrates Court on Friday.
